Centrifuge cake discharge WITHOUT scraper knife?

18. Jul 2017

With the Pull Action Filter centrifuge: a Ferrum Innovation

There are products which can easily be centrifuge but discharging from the centrifuge with a scraper knife would lead to adverse crystal breakage. Other products show thixotropic behaviour resulting from shear forces of the scraper knife during the scraping sequence. In this case the product becomes soft and smeary and cannot be discharge or only poorly.

For these products, the Ferrum Pull Action Filter centrifuge is the ideal solution. Ferrum developed this centrifuge a few years ago and now adapted and optimised it to meet current customer requirements. It allows the application of all the positive separation characteristics of a discontinuously working vertical filter centrifuge.

The secret is a specially designed pneumatically driven pull action mechanism stretching the filter cloth downwards, which loosens the product from the filter cloth and discharges it vertically downwards from the centrifuge.

For suitable products the Pull Action Filter centrifuge offers the following advantages:

  • Discharging without scraper knife
  • Gentle product treatment - no crystal breakage
  • No residual heel since this is also removed by stretching the filter cloth
  • The filter cloth is only stretched for discharging, not inverted. Therefore, the mechanical strain of the filter cloth is comparatively small.
  • The discharge sequence is carried out within the basket. For this reason, the centrifuge housing remains free from centrifuged product.
  • The dimensions and the weight of the Pull Action Filter centrifuge are significantly smaller than for a comparable horizontal filter centrifuge.
  • The Pull Action Filter centrifuge is less expensive than a comparable horizontal centrifuge with inverting filter cloth mechanism.
